My Favorite Environmentally Conscious Clothing Stores

My Favorite Environmentally Conscious Clothing Stores

Here are a few things you should know about me: I like shopping for clothes. I like saving money. And I believe in climate change (and I’m trying to do my own personal part in cutting back on my contribution to it)

Those three things are often at odds with each other. If you want to save money when buying clothes, you tend to buy cheaper products, which are often “fast fashion” items. Fashion in general has a massive impact on the planet, as the apparel industry is one of the biggest industrial polluters. Many fast fashion items are made from materials (usually plastics) that can release more pollutants into the water supply with each wash, or they just end up in a landfill when the pieces aren’t purchased or fall apart after a few wears, thanks to lackluster quality.

Since becoming more aware of the impact that the apparel industry has, I’ve tried to implement a few rules into my shopping habits:

1. Buy less
2. Buy better quality pieces that last longer
3. Choose natural fibers with a low eco-impact OR fibers produced sustainably OR fibers than can be recycled
4. Donate/recycle old clothes
5. Buy second-hand

In all, that mainly breaks down in the classic 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. I apply that to other aspects of my life, so I should apply it to fashion as well.

Of course, I’m not perfect! I sometimes shop at places like Forever 21 or Boohoo, stores that are known for fast fashion. Plus, I don’t make that much money, so I understand not being able to afford more environmentally friendly yet more expensive pieces. However, over the next few years, I really want to start investing in better quality clothing/accessories and reducing the amount that I buy.

Now, I’m a noted online shopper (another bad habit of mine) but I’ve started patronizing more environmentally conscious online-only stores. Sometimes it’s nice to not have to leave your own home to shop, you know? (Of course, the shipping process has its own environmental impact, but that’s a whole ‘nother story…)

My Favorite Makeup Tutorials

My Favorite Makeup Tutorials

If you’ve read my skincare routine post, you’ll know I LOVE makeup… I just never wear it.

Working from home, there’s really no need for me to get dolled up in order to sit in front of my computer all day, take my dog for a walk, or say hi to the UPS truck driver. I consider my work attire to be a messy bun, a bare face, and a nice matching pajama set. (I mean, it’s a jacket and pants! Might as well be a full suit!)

Even though I don’t wear makeup often, I sure do watch a lot of makeup tutorials. I find them soothing, and I love watching people change up their look with some perfectly placed pigments. Plus, when the time comes for me to put on makeup, I already have some inspiration in my back pocket.

Most of the tutorials here are featured on medium to medium-tan skintones, mainly because those are all pretty close to my shade, depending on the season. The first four are all definitely brown-skin friendly, but I’m sure would work on a variety of other skintones as well, even if it takes a little tweaking! And number five on the list… well, we all need a little fun in our lives.

I’m pretty big into soft, relatively neutral makeup, so most of these looks fall under that category. Bright colors and I have a tumultuous history (looking at you, electric blue eyeshadow from sixth grade) but one day I’d like to try something bright and fun. I’m not there yet… but one day.

Also, even though a lot of these tutorials use high end products, you can find a much more affordable dupe for just about everything these days!

So here we go, my top five favorite makeup tutorials!

New Year, Same Face [Skincare Routine]

New Year, Same Face [Skincare Routine]

Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉

2018 was… rough. Really rough! That’s not to say that it didn’t have its bright points, but I’m ready to keep moving forward and seek out better times.

Now that it’s 2019 and we’re all (well, a lot of us are) setting goals for the months ahead, I figured I’d share one of mine: keep up with a regular skincare routine. And I know I’m not the only one with that goal.

At this point in my life (my 20s) I’m blessed to say I have a solid routine and pretty clear skin, and I’d really love to keep both—knock on wood! However, it took quite a while (and a whole journey) to get to this point.

Let’s start at the beginning. Buckle your seatbelts, ’cause this is gonna be a long one.

Favorite Books of 2018

Favorite Books of 2018

Once upon a time, I had lofty dreams of being a book blogger. I wanted to read hundreds of books a year, take pretty pictures of them, and carefully analyze their messages.

But, uh… I am not capable of that. I’m lazy, crappy at taking photographs, and I don’t have the vocabulary to truly describe a book past I loved it!!! It’s taken some time, but I’ve finally come to terms with those facts—although that doesn’t mean I won’t be posting about some of my favorite books.

So now that 2018 is drawing to a close, I can share my favorite reads of the year!
